The Rolex Daytona model, since its start of production, has been leading the forefront as the most desirable chronograph in production. This is due to the overall precision of Rolex manufacturing that seamlessly incorporates into the complexity of a chronograph watch. All previous Rolex chronographs were a manual wind, and not until 1988 did Rolex release the Ref. 16500, which features an automatic "self-winding" movement for their headliner sports watch. Rolex decided to outsource for their movement in this reference using the Zenith 400 movement originally manufactured for the Zenith El-Primero. They used this movement as the basis then fortified it, performing approximately 200 modifications to the base movement to meet the prestigious expectations of the Wilsdorf group. This created the workhorse Rolex 4030 movement that was put in production for an era of 12 years. In this reference Rolex also incorporated the more resilient sapphire crystals, being a contributing factor to the increased depth rating guaranteed at 100m or 330ft

CASE & BRACELET
The lightly polished 18k yellow gold case is in strong condition, showing excellent case symmetry with light signs of honest use. The 18k yellow gold “UPH” bezel is exceptionally well preserved, retaining all of its original enamel and light signs of use. The case retains its original gold crown and screw-down pushers. The original 18k yellow gold Rolex 78398 Oyster bracelet with 103 solid end pieces retains 13 links that display no stretch and very light signs of use.
DIAL & HANDS
The white Mk. 4 dial is absolutely beautiful and is in flawless condition, the gold sub-dials are uncommon and tasteful. The tritium lume plots and hands are matching and have achieved a handsome ivory patina, under U.V. light inspection the dial and hands exhibit no degradation. The sub-dial hands are original and in excellent condition as well.
ACCESSORIES
None. The watch was recently serviced and is running at COSC spec, back by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
